Research Interests

My research interests are in algebraic geometry, algebraic coding theory, and discrete math applied to computer science.
For many years, I have been interested in Weierstrass points on algebraic curves.

From August 2003 to January 2010, I was a senior key personnel of a large NSF-funded multi-disciplinary project on profiling of terrorists and malicious cyber transactions for counter-terrorism and crimes. For more detailed information about this project and its publications, please browse the webpage: www.csc.lsu.edu/~chen/NSF-Project.htm .

Modern Algebra and Discrete Structures

I am also the author of the textbook, "Modern Algebra and Discrete Structures" (HarperCollins, 1991). This text is
intended for a junior-senior level course in Applied (or Abstract) Algebra. The hardcover edition of this book
is now out-of-print. A softcover reprint was published by Pearson, but is now out-of-print. A digital copy of this text is available from LSU Digital Commons.
