Twenty years ago Xiao Song Lin defined the twisted Alexander polynomial for a knot together with a representation of the fundamental group of its complement. Taking the trivial representation one obtains the classical Alexander polynomial.
The two weeks long X-math program for graduate students tries to understand the combinatorics, geometry and algebra of the twisted Alexander polynomial and its applications to other objects in knot theory.
