Information on LSU Mathematics Electronic Preprint Series

The LSU Mathematics Electronic Preprint Series publishes recent scientific papers authored or co-authored by a faculty member, a visitor, or a graduate assistant who, at the time the paper was written, was in the LSU Mathematics Department. The series will begin with papers submitted in 1996 or later and will, at any time, maintain on our site the last five years of preprints. Copyright laws will prevent us keeping entire papers on the site after they have appeared in print. At that time we will leave the abstract of the paper and provide a link to the journal's site if it is available.

The Preprint Series is edited by Gestur Ólafsson and Bogdan Oporowski.

We invite everybody to submit eligible papers!

In an attempt to reach the widest possible audience, the paper should be submitted in three formats: dvi, Postscript, and PDF. Also, to prevent clogging our e-mail system with large files, the paper should be submitted by copying the files into a submissions directory. For detailed instructions on submitting a paper, see below. Direct all questions on submitting papers to preprint@math.lsu.edu.

To submit a paper to the preprint series, follow the following steps:

  1. If a paper has not yet appeared in print, make a dvi file of the entire paper; if the paper has already been published, make a dvi file of only the abstract. For the purpose of easy bookkeeping, name your file [filename].dvi where [filename] consists of the author's initials followed by a year, followed, if necessary, by a number, e.g. bso19991.dvi.
  2. Convert a dvi file to the Postscript format, and then to the PDF format. (This may be accomplished by typing in a terminal shell (on either a Sun or a Linux computer):
dvips [filename].dvi -Ppdf (this creates a Postscript file [filename].ps), and
    ps2pdf [filename].ps (this creates a PDF file [filename].pdf)
  3. Place all three files in the directory ~preprint/submissions. This can be accomplished by typing the following commands into a terminal shell
    cp [filename].dvi ~preprint/submissions/
    cp [filename].ps ~preprint/submissions/
    cp [filename].pdf ~preprint/submissions/
(Even though you can put files in the submissions directory, you cannot see its contents.) At your discretion, you may delete the files from your home directory to conserve space.
  4. Send an e-mail message to preprint@math.lsu.edu which contains:
    • the name(s) of the author(s),
    • the title of the paper,
    • the list of keywords that do not appear in the title
    • the status of the paper, including whichever of the following are appropriate: the date it has been submitted to a journal, the date of the last revision, the bibliographical reference to the paper if it has already been published, and
    • the URLs to the author's and the journal's homepages (if appropriate).
  5. Make a note to yourself to notify the Preprint Series editors when the status of the paper changes.
