A Brief Bio

Silvia Jimenez is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Mathematics at Louisiana State University.  Her anticipated graduation date is August 2010.  She received her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Universidad de Costa Rica in 2002 and her Master's degree in Mathematics from Louisiana State University in 2006.

Her current research centers on her dissertation, which is about Homogenization of Nonlinear Elliptic Partial Differential Equations, with Professor Robert Lipton as her PhD adviser.  She is interested in researching the effect of microstructure on the solution of Partial Differential Equations.

She is currently applying for postdoctoral positions.

"Mathematics is not a deductive science, that's a cliche.  When you try to prove a theorem, you don't just list the hypotheses, and then start to reason. What you do is trial and error, experimentation, guesswork."
