A Brief Bio
Silvia
Jimenez is a doctoral
candidate in the Department of Mathematics at
Her current research centers on her dissertation, which is about Homogenization of Nonlinear Elliptic Partial Differential Equations, with Professor Robert Lipton as her PhD adviser. She is interested in researching the effect of microstructure on the solution of Partial Differential Equations.
She is currently applying for postdoctoral positions.
"Mathematics is not a deductive science, that's a cliche. When you try to prove a theorem, you don't just list the hypotheses, and then start to reason. What you do is trial and error, experimentation, guesswork."

NEWS:
- The proposal that Zuhal Yeter, Anna Zemlyanova, and I wrote, with the help of Prof. Susanne C. Brenner to organize a Sonia Kovalevsky Mathematics Day at LSU on February 2010 was approved by the AWM. The AWM awarded us $1500 for the activity through grants from Elizabeth City State University and the National Security Agency (NSA).
