Wallpaper pattern drawer

This is a java 1.1.1 applet for drawing "wall paper patterns".

Note, this program and page were written around 2000, as far as I recall, and have not been updated, except to be moved to a new home.)

Instructions:

To draw, just click in the area surrounded by the frame, and use your mouse to draw.

Select the pattern type with the Wallpaper Pattern menu.

choose the pen colour by clicking on one of the coloured circles.

If you want to change the colour choices, select a coloured circle, use the three arrows to choose red blue green values, and then click on set colour.

If you click on "multi" you can draw patterns with more than one colour, but you can't choose the colours yet. (This tends to work a bit slowly.)

you can change the size of the fundamental domain using the "fundamental domain attributes" section.

This page is not really complete yet. I need to add options to change other attributes of the 'fundamental domain' of the pattern. Maybe add different drawing methods. The "mark" button does not do anything yet. Later I will make it mark lines of reflection, and centers of rotation.

You can find out about the mathematics behind these patterns at Xah's Wall paper patterns page

Some samples:

The following java 1.1.1. applet displays quite a number of examples produced from the program above. For some of the example, they have had colours changed with another program after drawing, so you can see the same pattern with various colour choices. For about 4 of them some filters have been applied using the program xv, such as "blur" and "edge detect" to produce alterations on the original drawings.

More samples:

You can also find more examples of patterns made with this program, on my web page at http://www.math.lsu.edu/~verrill/wallpaper/wallpaperPics/. This should include everything from the sample java applet, but you don't need java to view these.
