G.E.A.U.X. Calendar 2008

The calendar is for the two weeks before classes begin in the fall: Monday, August 11th through Saturday, August 23rd, 2008. Items in bold are larger obligations--but may change times! Items in (parentheses) are social events.

Unless otherwise noted, all sessions will be held in Lockett room 243.

Monday, August 11th

  • 9:30am: Meet at the Visitor's Center. Parking is available for a nominal fee.
  • 10am: Checklist: paperwork, keys, registration, website photos, and free pizza.
  • 1:30-2:30pm: Meet at the lobby of Pleasant Hall for a campus tour
  • 2:45pm: Checklist: ID Cards, Student Union, Credit Union, Parking passes.

Tuesday, August 12th

  • 10am: Algebra I: "A Little Number Theory and a Group" by Myron Minn-Thy-Aye
  • 11am: Algebra II: "Group Presentations" by Jared Culbertson
  • 1:30pm: Problem Session
  • 2:30pm: "Sums of Squares and Quadratic Fields" by Myron Minn-Thu-Aye and
    "Applications of Complex Analysis in Mechanics" by Anna Zemlyanova
  • Evening Social Event: Games Night in the Lounge

Wednesday, August 13th

  • 10am: Algebra III: "Linear Algebra" by Jens Christensen
  • 11am: Algebra IV: "Group Actions" by Amber Russell
  • 1:30pm: Problem Session
  • 2:30pm: "How to Succeed in your First Year"
  • 4:00pm: Ice Cream in the Lounge
  • Evening Social Event: Shopping Trip meets at Lockett

Saturday, August 23nd

  • 8:45am, meet at Lockett for Laura Plantation Trip
  • 3pm return to Lockett
