Calculators and Collaboration: You can use any technology available to help with homework, and you may collaborate with others while doing them. However, tests and exams you may only use a scientific calculator that does not do graphs or symbolic manipulation, such as solving equations and symbolically calculating derivatives and integrals. Work on in-class exams must be your own work with no assistance from anyone else. During an exam, attempts to look at other students’ work, the use of crib sheets or formula sheets, and any attempts to access the internet will be considered to be a violation of the LSU Code of Student Conduct.

Tests and Exam: No books or notes are permitted, electronic, paper, or on any other medium. No electronic devices are permitted other than a calculator and a watch to check the time. No cell phones, smart phones, or internet-connected devices are permitted. Only those calculators without graphing, programming and symbolic manipulation capability are permitted. No make-up exams will be given unless a compelling documented excuse is presented. Your final exam score will replace your lowest test score provided the final exam score is higher. You are taking this course under the guideline of LSU Code of Student Conduct. The University has clear policies requiring academic honesty.  If there is clear evidence that a student has committed fraud to advance his/her academic status (e.g. cheating on a test or exam), your instructor will report to the Office of the Dean of Students.

Test and Exam makeup policy: To request any make-up test or exam, valid documents (such as physical doctor's notes or team travel notices) must be provided.

Homework: Homework will be assigned weekly on this course homepage. Only selected problems will be graded but students are required to complete all the assigned problems. Some problems will be explained in class if the instructor finds it necessary. The questions in the tests and final exam will be similar to those homework problems. Students are recommended to work in groups on the homework, but each student should write up his/her own solutions on paper. Assignments must be written neatly so that the grader can read them.

Textbook:  Otto Bretcher: Linear Algebra with Applications, Fifth edition (Classic Version), Pearson, 2019. The bookstore ISBN is: Print (paperback): 9780135162972 USE ONLY this ISBN for your printed book. The e-text version is not recommended.

We plan to cover most of Chapters 1 -- 7. This course treats systems of linear equations, vector spaces, linear transformations, matrices, and determinants.

Attendance and class preparation: Regular attendance is required for this course. You should make every effort not to miss any classes and complete all the homework in a timely fashion. It is your responsibility to catch up with missed lectures. You are responsible for the announcements made in class, which may include changes to the syllabus.

Mobile phone policy: Please refrain from cell phone during class time.

Disability Policy: Please address any special needs or special accommodations with me at the beginning of the semester or as soon as you become aware of your needs. Those seeking accommodations based on disabilities should obtain forms from the Disability Services (DS) is located in room 115 of Johnston Hall (225-578-5919).

Free Math Tutoring: Your first resource should be to see me. I look forward to helping students individually in my office. There are also other resources:

·       The Shell Tutorial Center will open its doors on TBA, in ROOM 141, Middleton Library.
HOURS of Operation: M-Th, 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Friday, 9:30 - 3:00 pm.
