Directed Reading Program

Overview:

The Directed Reading Program (DRP) at LSU offers undergraduate students a unique opportunity to engage in an independent study project under the mentorship of a graduate student in mathematics. This semester-long initiative allows students to explore mathematical topics beyond the standard curriculum, fostering both intellectual growth and a deeper understanding of advanced mathematical concepts.

Eligibility:

The DRP is open to all undergraduate students, regardless of their major or level of mathematical background. We encourage participation from students with diverse academic experiences who have a passion for mathematics and a desire to explore new areas of the field.

Program Timeline:

All interested participants must complete their sign-up by February 2nd.

Program Benefits:

1. Personalized Mentorship: Engage in one-on-one mentorship with a graduate student, providing guidance and support throughout your independent study.
   
2. Explore Advanced Topics: Delve into intriguing mathematical concepts not typically covered in the standard curriculum.
   
3. Foundation for Future Research: Acquire foundational knowledge that can serve as a stepping stone for future academic research and advanced studies.
   

Participant Expectations:

1. Weekly Meetings: Meet with your graduate mentor for one hour each week to discuss progress and explore new concepts.
   
2. Independent Study: Dedicate approximately three hours per week to reading and preparing for your DRP project.
   
3. Final Presentation: Conclude the program by delivering a brief presentation on your project findings at the end of the semester.
