Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are the daily meeting times?
The daily schedule is coordinated between each research mentor and their student group based on availability. Most groups meet for about 2-3 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Mentors will reach out in advance to finalize a meeting time that works for everyone.
When will we receive our schedule and mentor information?
Once research groups have been finalized and approved to run, students will be contacted by their assigned mentor with details about scheduling and session logistics. This typically happens a few weeks before the session begins.
Has my child been accepted into the program?
If you completed the registration form and submitted the deposit, your spot is confirmed unless you hear otherwise. Final placement into a specific topic depends on enrollment and group availability.
I paid the deposit. When is the remaining tuition due?
The remaining tuition balance is due once your research group has been confirmed to run. We will send a follow-up email with payment instructions at that time.
Can I get a refund for the deposit if we withdraw?
The deposit is generally considered non-refundable, as it helps us reserve a spot and begin mentor planning.
If you have specific concerns, please reach out to us directly. We handle each situation on a case-by-case basis and aim to be as accommodating as possible.
Is my first-choice research topic guaranteed?
We do our best to place every student in their first-choice research topic, and in many cases, we can do so. However, final assignments depend on several factors:
- Topic viability: Each research group must have a minimum number of students to run. If a student’s top choice does not reach that threshold, the group may not be offered that session.
- Program-wide balance: In some cases, we may need to reassign a few students to their second choice to ensure that all groups reach the minimum number required to run. This allows us to accommodate the largest number of students overall.
Our goal is always to honor each student’s top preferences while maintaining the integrity and feasibility of the program. We guarantee that students will be placed in one of their top two topic selections, and we take care to ensure that each assignment offers a high-quality, engaging experience.
If a student is passionate about a specific topic, they are welcome to let us know, and we’ll factor that into our planning as best we can.
Do I need to submit transcripts or recommendation letters?
No. Transcripts and letters of recommendation are not required for this program.
Is my child eligible based on their math background?
We welcome rising 9th–12th graders with a strong interest in mathematics. There is no strict prerequisite, but students should feel comfortable exploring math beyond the standard high school curriculum.
Is there a deadline to register, or can I still sign up?
Registration is open until all available research groups are filled. Session availability is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage students to register early, as popular sessions may close before the official deadline.
Can we switch sessions or research topics?
In some cases, yes. If your assigned session or topic no longer works for your schedule, please contact us as early as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate changes, depending on group availability.
When will I know which research group I’m in?
Research group assignments are finalized once enrollment for each topic reaches the minimum number of participants. You’ll receive an email with your confirmed group and mentor once it’s been approved to run, typically a few weeks before the session begins.
Does my child need a tablet or special technology?
No special equipment is required, but many mentors prefer using tablets for real-time problem-solving and explanations. A computer with Zoom access and a stable internet connection is sufficient, but using a stylus or tablet can enhance the experience.
