Welcome to the LSU AWM Student Chapter!
This is the website of the Louisiana State
University Student Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics.
The Chapter was formed at the end of Fall 2008 and was approved
by the AWM on December 22, 2008.
After lying dormant since 2015, a devoted team of mathematicians breathed new life into the chapter in 2024. We owe our present existence to Rachel Myers, Gowri Sunkara, Christian Ennis, Huong Vo, Nuwanthi Samarawickrama, and our past and present sponsor Christin Bibby.
Here are the Bylaws of our Student Chapter: This is the document we sent to the AWM to form our Chapter.
The Student Chapters of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM)
serve as a mechanism for all students, regardless of major or gender,
to be exposed to the world of professional mathematics, to obtain
information about the varied career options in mathematics, to network
with professional mathematicians, and to develop leadership skills.
We will have meetings and events during the semester and we will
keep posting these activities on this site under Recent Posts.

"To encourage women and girls to study and to have active careers in the mathematical

AWM & SIAM - Q&A with Dr. Carol Woodward
Hosted by LSU's Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) Student Chapter
Thank you to all who attended the joint Q&A with Dr. Carol Woodward!
Both SIAM and AWM members had the opportunity to ask questions of the well-decorated President of SIAM. Dr. Woodward, as a researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, is also the head of the SUNDIALS project for C and Fortran, providing a robust toolkit for scientists and applied mathematicians alike.
