MATH 3903 – Spring 2018
Methods of Problem Solving
In
this course we will practice a variety of practical and theoretical techniques
for mathematical problem-solving, with a focus on preparing solutions for submission
to collegiate mathematics journals. Topics may include all areas of
undergraduate mathematics! See the Syllabus for more information.
Note that MATH 3903 is regularly held every Fall
semester in conjunction with the Problem-Solving Seminar,
which is intended for students who are interested
in undergraduate Mathematics Competitions at LSU.
(Updated
2019). The remainder of this page contains a brief summary of the successfully
solved problems submitted by LSU students.

Resources
The
following mathematics journals regularly feature Problem sections, which are a
great way to challenge (and improve!) your understanding of more standard
classroom material. Note that access to the journals may require logging in
through LSU Libraries.
- American Mathematical Monthly,
“Problems and Solutions”. This is generally regarded as the most notable
collection of Problems.
