The departmental professorial faculty conduct scientific research in various areas of mathematics, such as algebra, combinatorics, control theory, harmonic analysis, material science, probability, and topology. Some of this research is funded by grants from federal agencies, including National Science Foundation and National Security Agency, and state agencies, such as Louisiana Board of Regents.
The results of research carried out in the department are published
in various professional journals and presented at research
conferences around the world.
Before papers appear in print, they are usually available through
the departmental Preprint Server.
The department also hosts research conferences in mathematics.
Some of the recented conferences held at LSU were:
Dorroh Retirement
Conference, February 8, 2002,
LSU Math Doctoral Program
Assessment Conference (DoPAC),
Arrangements and Mathematical Physics, and
The Thirty-Second Southeastern International
Conference on Combinatorics, Graph Theory and Computing.
