The Department has been awarded a new GAANN grant (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need) from the US Department of Education in spring, 2010. This grant provides for doctoral fellowships to support excellent US citizen and Permanent Resident graduate students in mathematics at LSU. Mathematics has been designated by congress as an area of national need. These fellowships can pay up to $30,000 per year, capped however by the student's level of financial need, and they cover tuition and certain other educational expenses. Project directors Len Richardson, Larry Smolinsky, and Jacek Cygan will provide further information to eligible students.
