Two Math Majors awarded NSF funded Undergraduate Research Grant

Math majors Rachael Keller and Amanda Mayhall have each been awarded a SURE grant (Supervised Undergraduate Research Experiences) by the Louisiana Board of Regents. The SURE program is funded by the NSF, and seeks to increase the participation of women and other underrepresented minorities in STEM fields by fostering opportunities for students to conduct supervised research with a faculty mentor.

Rachael Keller's 2014 SURE grant for the academic year 2014/15 is for the implementation and extension of algorithms in knot theory under iOS. Amanda Mayhall's 2015 SURE grant for the calendar year 2015 is for studying applications of the Mahler Measure in Number and Knot Theory.

Rachael Keller's and Amanda Mayhall's research projects are mentored by Professor Oliver Dasbach.
