LSU Mathematics Department participates in Multi University Research Initiative with University of New Mexico Electrical Engineering Department, MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center, the University of California Irvine Mathematics Department and The Ohio State University Department of Electrical Engineering.

LSU Mathematics Professor Robert Lipton is the recipient and principal investigator for the LSU component of the recent Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) on Transformational Electromagnetics Research. The grant support coming to the LSU Math Department is for 5 years and over one million dollars. The LSU math MURI research team consists of Professor Lipton, Anthony Polizzi (postdoc) and Lokendra Thakur (graduate student). The team creates novel multi-scale structured materials by developing and applying new mathematical and computational techniques for tough multi-scale problems. The grant furthers LSU’s role as a nationally recognized center for applied and interdisciplinary mathematics research.
