Directed Reading Program
What:
The Directed Reading Program (DRP) is a semester-long pairing of an undergraduate student (any major or university) with a graduate student or postdoctoral researcher in mathematics (from Louisiana State University) for an informal independent reading course (it will not appear on a transcript) outside the usual mathematics curriculum.Who:
- Open to all undergraduate students from any major.
- All levels of mathematical backgrounds are welcome.
Why:
- Gain one-on-one mentoring from a graduate student.
- Learn some cool math outside of the standard curriculum.
- Learn background material for future readings and research.
Expectations:
- Meet with your graduate mentor for one hour each week.
- Commit approximately 3 hours each week to reading for the DRP.
- At the end of the semester, deliver a brief presentation on what you have learned. (Optional, but strongly encouraged.)
