Hyman Bass to give Academic Excellence Visiting Scholar Lectures

Professor Hyman Bass has been tenatively scheduled to visit the department as the next "Academic Excellence Visiting Scholar" and to give lectures on Monday and Tuesday April 14th and 15th.

Hyman Bass is the Roger Lyndon Collegiate Professor of Mathematics and Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Michigan. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Bass has chaired the Mathematical Sciences Education Board at the National Academy of Sciences and the Committee on Education of the American Mathematical Society. He is a National Medal of Science Laureate (2006), and his citation reads, "For his fundamental contributions to pure mathematics, especially in the creation of algebraic K-theory, his profound influence on mathematics education, and his service to the mathematics research and education communities."
