The Boyd Professorship is LSU's most prestigious professorship. It was established in 1953 and named for the brothers David French Boyd and Thomas Duckett Boyd. It is conferred on the recipients for life.
The following four professors in the math department were awarded the Boyd Professorship:
- Richard Anderson (awarded in 1959)
- Pasquale Porcelli (awarded in 1965)
- Jimmie Lawson (awarded in 1999)
- James Oxley (awarded in 2012)
- Susanne C. Brenner (awarded in 2017)
