Joshua Fallon receives 2017 Alumni Association Teaching Assistant Award

Joshua Fallon 

Joshua Fallon is the recipient of the 2017 Alumni Association Teaching Assistant Award. This award recognizes outstanding teaching ability and service to students.

Susan Murphy (B.S. in mathematics; LSU) elected to the National Academy of Sciences

Susan Murphy, H.E. Robbins Distinguished University Professor of Statistics and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. She received her B.S. in mathematics in 1980 from LSU.

LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award for Pramod Achar

Professor Pramod Achar received a 2016 LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award for outstanding research, teaching, and service. Pramod Achar joined LSU in 2004.

LSU Distinguished Faculty Award for Milen Yakimov

Professor Milen Yakimov received a 2016 LSU Distinguished Faculty Award for his sustained records of excellence in research, teaching and service.

Milen Yakimov joined LSU in 2008. Currently he is the Michael F. and Roberta Nesbit McDonald Professor of Mathematics. He is a Sloan Research Fellow.

 

LSU Alumni Rising Faculty Award for Shawn Walker

Professor Shawn Walker received a 2016 LSU Alumni Rising Faculty Award for his outstanding record of scholarship and published research. 

Shawn Walker joined LSU in 2010. He recently was awarded an NSF Career grant.

 

LSU Foundation Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award for Gestur Olafsson

Professor Gestur Olafsson is the recipient of the 2016 LSU Foundation Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award. The award recognizes superior graduate-level teaching and related activities.

Gestur Olafsson joined LSU in 1993. Currently, he is an Alumni Professor.

TAF Undergraduate Teaching Award for Phoebe Rouse

At the 2016 Choppin Honors Convocation of the LSU College of Science Phoebe Rouse received a TAF Undergraduate Teaching Award.

Phoebe Rouse is a Senior Instructor in the Math Department, and the Director for Precalculus Mathematics. She joined LSU 35 years ago.

Best Poster Award for LSU Math Graduate Student Neal Livesay

Neal Livesay's poster on the "Local Theory of Meromorphic Connections" received the best poster award at the Texas-Oklahoma Representations and Automorphic Forms Conference TORA VII.

Neal Livesay's PhD advisor is Professor Daniel Sage.

McGehee Award for Excellent Research for Pramod Achar and Hongchao Zhang

The McGehee Award for Excellent Research by a Junior Faculty Member will be awarded this year jointly to Pramod Achar and Hongchao Zhang. This award was established to honor Carruth McGehee on his retirement. The area of the award rotates between Mathematics; Humanities and the Social Sciences; and Natural Sciences. The first winner of the award was Milen Yakimov in 2009.
