If you are teaching a coordinated multi-section course, typically 1431 and below, be sure to check with your course coordinator whether a particular course management system is preferred or even mandatory. They may even provide you with course material templates (like sets of homework and quizzes) within that system, so that you're not starting from scratch. Described here are the course management systems in use by our department.

Certain software of interest to mathematicians must be licensed to use. For office machines and laptops assigned to a single user, you do the licensing yourself (see below). For shared lab machines (and shared multi-student grad office machines), we handle the licensing.

Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at LSU! You have perhaps been directed to this page as part of an e-mail informing you of your new account. That e-mail contained a randomly-generated initial password. Here are perhaps your next questions:

Math ID account creation

• We create incoming faculty, post-doc, and staff accounts when requested to do so by math HR staff.
• Accounts for grad students are created in a batch once the department's graduate studies director provides us with a final list of incoming students.
• Undergraduates rarely have accounts, but a faculty member leading a research project with an advanced undergraduate may contact us to discuss options.

Department-provided systems and services are accessed using your Math ID (which is separate from your MyLSU ID). Your Math ID includes network account file storage (the "Linux home directory") that is automatically backed up by our servers.
