Math major Sarah Davidson received a 2019 Curtis E. Huntington Memorial Scholarship from the Actuarial Foundation.

Professor Susanne C. Brenner was named AWM Fellow by the Association for Women in Mathematics. The AWM recognized her "For being a role model nationally and internationally due to her widely-known work in finite element methods; for her promotion of women in mathematics via the Women in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing network, as mentor of PhDs, and as advisor of graduate and undergraduate students."

The Third Annual TX-LA Undergraduate Mathematics Conference will take place at Texas A&M, College Station, from October 19-20, 2019. The previous two conferences were hosted by the University of Houston, and by LSU. Stephen Shipman is a Co-Organizer at Large of the undergraduate conference series.

The paper Reflective prolate-spheroidal operators and the KP/KdV equations by Riley Caspar (LSU), F. Alberto Grünbaum (Berkeley), Milen Yakimov (LSU) and Ignacio Zurrián (Cordoba, Argentina) was published in the current issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The weekly Problem-Solving Seminar is held each Wednesday evening this fall. This is a seminar for students interested in undergraduate Mathemics Competitions at LSU, in on order to practice common techniques.

Blaise Bourdin was named the A.K. and Shirley Barton Professor of Mathematics. Professor Bourdin joined the LSU Math Department in 2002. His research has been funded through six NSF research grants.

Pramod Achar was named the Shirley Blue Barton Professor of Mathematics. Professor Achar joined the LSU Math Department in 2004. Previously, he was awarded the LSU Rainmaker Award (2009), the LSU Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award (2016), the Carruth McGehee Award for Excellent Research in Mathematics by a Junior Faculty Member (2016), and the LSU College of Science Graduate Teaching Award (2017).

  The research of Assistant Professor Jiuyi Zhu was featured by the LSU Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED). Jiuyi Zhu joined the department in 2016. Before coming to LSU, he was a J.J.Sylvester Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University. His research interests are in Partial Differential Equations.

The conference OAL-RAG 2019 on order, algebra, logic, and real algebraic geometry will take place Monday and Tuesday, May 6 - 7, 2019.
