Math Major Lillian Powell is one of 65 graduates from eight different colleges at LSU who will be awarded the LSU Distinguished Communicator Medal during the May 2024 Commencement Ceremony. Her advisor is Charles Delzell.
Bren Hutchinson, an LSU math major, was awarded the 2024 Curtis E. Huntington Memorial Scholarship by the Actuarial Foundation. This scholarship is granted through a national competition open to full-time college seniors who are planning to pursue a career as an actuary.
On Thursday, November 30th, 2023, the LSU MATH 4020 Capstone Course lead by Professor Peter Wolenski and Professor Nadejda Drenska conducted presentations from four separate research teams of students. Each project represented the achievements of an intense semester long effort exploring the practical applications of mathematics research. These research projects unfolded throughout the fall semester, with graduate student leaders guiding and collaborating with undergraduate students in each team.
A team from the LSU Department of Mathematics was recently awarded a $2.5 million NSF Research Training Group Grant to support initiatives for students and early-career mathematicians seeking to engage in cutting-edge research in the fields of topology, representation theory, and mathematical physics. The LSU team consists of lead PI Dr. Pramod Achar, along with four Co-PIs: Dr. Pallavi Dani, Dr. Gestur Olafsson, Dr. David Shea Vela-Vick, and Dr. Anton Zeitlin.
The LSU Department of Mathematics presented its annual math major awards at the 2023 LSU College of Science Honors Convocation: Michael Gravois is the recipient of the 2023 Betti and Robert Giles Senior Mathematics Award. Han Nguyen received the Pasquale Porcelli Rising Senior Undergraduate Scholarship, and Jay Garcia the Pasquale Porcelli Rising Junior Undergraduate Scholarship.
Ling Long is the recipient of the 2023 LSU College of Science Undergraduate Teaching Award. The award recognizes superior teaching in undergraduate courses.

In summer 2021, a Virtual ALEKS Helpline will assist students with working through the Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces (ALEKS) Placement, Preparation, and Learning (PPL) program. The Helpline is a partnership of the LSU Department of Mathematics with the LSU Gordon A.
LSU Math Major Rohin Gilman has been selected as a 2021 Barry Goldwater Scholar. The scholarship is the most prestigious undergraduate scholarship given in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics.
