Math Problem-Solving Seminar 

This fall the Undergraduate Math Problem-Solving Seminar will meet Wednesdays at 5pm.

NSF Graduate Fellowship for Colleen Robichaux (LSU Math B.S. 2016)

Colleen Robichaux, LSU Math B.S. 2016, was awarded a prestigious NSF Graduate Fellowship in the "Algebra, Number Theory, and Combinatorics" Field of Study Category.

Colleen Robichaux is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At LSU she was mentored by Frank Neubrander.

LSU performed well on Putnam Exam

LSU performed well on the 2016 Putnam Mathematical Competition, earning a Team Rank of 62nd out of the 415 North American colleges and universities
that participated. This prestigious competition is comprised of a written exam that is administered annually each December, and is widely known as
one of the world's most difficult scientific competitions.

NSF Graduate Fellowship for Daniel Bourgeois

Math Major Daniel Bourgeois received a prestigious NSF Graduate Fellowship. He plans on taking it at the Statistics Department at Rice University.

Daniel Bourgeois was mentored by Professor Susanne C. Brenner.

Math Majors heading to a PhD program

This year, the list of graduating Math Majors that head to a PhD program in the fall includes:

  • Jared Able will be at Michigan State University pursuing a PhD in Mathematics.
  • Jesse Clifton is heading to NC State for a PhD in Statistics.
  • Amanda Mayhall is also going to NC State for a PhD in Applied Mathematics.
  • Colleen Robichaux decided on the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, for a PhD in Mathematics.
  • Shawn Williams will be at Rice University pursuing a PhD in Mathematics.
  • Dustin Wright is heading to Texas A&M for a PhD in Mathematics.

LSU math students perform well on Putnam competition

The scores for last December's Putnam Mathematical Competition have been released, and LSU students performed well. The top performer was Shawn Williams, whose score of 20 points placed him in the prestigious Top 500 List, with a rank of 343 out of 4275 competitors from 554 colleges and universities nationwide. LSU also had a total of six students earn a positive score, while the national median was 0. Prof.
