Jasson Vindas (LSU PhD 2009) publishes first book

Jasson Vindas who received his PhD in 2009 from LSU (Advisor: Prof. Ricardo Estrada) along with two coauthors published his first book "Asymptotic behavior of generalized functions".

Aleksandra Gruszka is best paper finalist at American Control Conference

Aleksandra Gruszka, a PhD student of Professor Michael Malisoff, was one of five students selected as finalists for the Student Best Paper Award at the 2011 American Control Conference-ACC 2011, held in San Francisco, June 29 - July 1, 2011.

Susanna Dann Wins Postdoc at the University of Missouri

Congratulations to Susanna Dann (soon-to-be LSU PhD, advisor Prof. Olafsson), who has accepted a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her advisor there will be Prof. Alexander Koldobsky.

Girja Tripathi Wins Postdoc at the Tata Institute

Congratulations to Girja Tripathi (LSU PhD Dec. 2010, advisor Prof. Schlichting), who has accepted a postdoctoral fellowship at the Tata Institute, Mumbai.

Graduate Wins Postdoc at Tufts

Congratulations to Jens Christensen (LSU PhD 2009, advisor Prof. Olafsson). After two years at the University of Maryland, Jens has accepted a 3-year postdoctoral position at Tufts University.

Graduate Wins National Award

Mihály (Misi) Kovács (LSU PhD. 2004, advisor Prof. Frank Neubrander) is this year's sole recipient of the New Zealand Mathematical Society's Early Career Award for Mathematical Research. Misi's citation for the prize reads “for his innovative research in the field of stochastic partial differential equations, particularly their numerical approximation”. Congratulations Misi!

Graduate Wins NSF Research Grant

Patricio Jara (LSU, Ph.D. 2008, adviser Prof. Frank Neubrander) received a three year research grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Mathematical Sciences for his research on the Numerical Inversion of the Laplace Transform and its Applications to Evolution Equations. Congratulations Patricio!

Graduate Student Wins Postdoctoral Research Position

Congratulations to Moshe Cohen, doctoral student of Prof. Oliver Dasbach.  Moshe has accepted a postdoctoral research position in  the Department of Mathematics at Bar Ilan University, in Ramat Gan, Israel.  He  will be working with Prof. Mina Teicher in a topic related to Braid Groups.


Award-Winning Topology Video by Graduate Student

Congratulations to Mustafa Hajij. His topology video "Turaev surfaces" is the 2010 Dean's scholarship award winner at the
LSU digital media festival.

GAANN Grant for Doctoral Fellowships

The Department has been awarded a new GAANN grant (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need) from the US Department of Education in spring, 2010.  This grant provides for doctoral fellowships to support excellent US citizen and Permanent Resident graduate students in mathematics at LSU.  Mathematics has been designated by congress as an area of national need.  These fellowships can pay up to $30,000 per year, capped however by the student's level of financial need, and they cover tuition and certain other educational expenses.&n
