Yi Zhang wins Postdoc at University of Tennessee

Congratulations to Yi Zhang (soon-to-be LSU PhD, advisor Prof. Brenner), who has accepted a three year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Tennessee.

Laura Rider awarded NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship

Congratulations to Laura Rider (soon-to-be LSU PhD, advisor Prof. Achar), who has been awarded an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship to be used at MIT.

New GAANN Grant for Doctoral Fellowships

The Department has been awarded a new 3 year GAANN grant (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need)

Postdoctoral positions for graduate students Yue Chen, Maria Vega and Amber Russell

Yue Chen, Maria Vega and Amber Russell accepted Postdoctoral positions starting in the Fall of 2012.

Yue Chen, who will receive his PhD in the Summer of 2012 under the direction of Professor Robert Lipton, will be a 3-year Postdoctoral Scholar in the Math Department of the University of Kentucky.

Maria Vega, who received her PhD under Dan Sage in December of 2011, will be a 3-year Postdoc at North Carolina State University.

Amber Russell, who will receive her PhD in the Summer of 2012 under Pramod Achar, will be a 3-year Postdoc at the University of Georgia. 

Article of Sam Nelson (LSU PhD 2002) featured in the "Notices of the AMS"

The article "The Combinatorial Revolution in Knot Theory" by Sam Nelson was featured in the Notices of the American Mathematical Society in the December 2011 issue. Sam Nelson received his PhD from LSU in 2002 under Professor Rick Litherland. He is currently Assistant Professor at the Claremont McKenna College, CA.

Graduate wins Postdoctoral Fellowship at Weierstrass Institute

Santiago Fortes, who received his PhD from LSU in 2010 under the supervision of Robert Lipton and Stephen Shipman, has been awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Weierstrass Institute in Berlin, Germany.  This will be Santiago's second postdoctoral position, following on the one he is completing at the California Institute of Technology.

Fiction award for Carolyn Chun (LSU PhD 2009)

Carolyn Chun who received her PhD in mathematics in 2009 under the advise of Prof. James Oxley was awarded the 2012 Kenneth Patchen Award for her MFA thesis: "How to break article noun". The award includes a publishing contract.

Jasson Vindas (LSU PhD 2009) publishes first book

Jasson Vindas who received his PhD in 2009 from LSU (Advisor: Prof. Ricardo Estrada) along with two coauthors published his first book "Asymptotic behavior of generalized functions".

Aleksandra Gruszka is best paper finalist at American Control Conference

Aleksandra Gruszka, a PhD student of Professor Michael Malisoff, was one of five students selected as finalists for the Student Best Paper Award at the 2011 American Control Conference-ACC 2011, held in San Francisco, June 29 - July 1, 2011. For more information about this award, see the ACC-2011 website. An extended version of this paper has already been accepted for publication in the journal International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control.

Susanna Dann Wins Postdoc at the University of Missouri

Congratulations to Susanna Dann (soon-to-be LSU PhD, advisor Prof. Olafsson), who has accepted a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her advisor there will be Prof. Alexander Koldobsky.
